Chautauqua. "

I may hear my hubby tell the word in the other room ... but could not understand why.

"What was that?"

"Chautauqua ..." he repeated.

"What?" I was in the other room trying to tweet, work on some networks and hear the loud and unruly children, but still soft.

But Chautauqua? The place where I wanted to go for the last 7 years? Retirement / writing workshop, I wanted to attend? The conference I drooled over? The conference I waxed poetic?

"There's a special on PBS tonight," he continued. "You should watch it."

RECORD IT! "I was only in the additional room, but I wished-for to make sure he heard me.

"I can not. The DVR does not work." He spoke at a stable level, as if it was not important.

He did not understand. He could not.

He changed the channel.

Sigh.

News ... blah, blah, blah ... blah ... HGTV, blah, blah

Then one of his brother - "The Chautauqua ..."

I ran to the living room (laptop in hand), plop on the couch and made a mental note to give my husband a big ol 'kiss after the show.

So ... I watched the PBS special and drenched everything I learned in Chautauqua came to be, why it's a popular place and tons of other interesting things about modern times "Eutopia".

If you've never heard of Chautauqua, there are tons of great things to love about it. But the thing that draws me to this haven of peace is the Highlights Foundation Chautauqua "workshop. Yes, the same group that publishes children's magazine highlights for Children. Remember the Timber toes? Goofus and Gallant? Which highlights?

Highlights of the Foundation hold a week-long writing retreat each year. This is a week of learning, enlightenment and immersion in the world of writing. I want to go. (A scholarship is the only way it will happen!)
