WHITE PLAINS, NY - A man accepted in court Wednesday that he fatally wounded his 9 year old daughter and baby sitter - after telling the mother of the girl on the phone what he would do.
Darrell Evans, fifty-one, by Mount Vernon, pleaded guilty to 2 counts of mutilate in convert for a sentence from forty years to life in prison, DA Janet DiFiore said of.
The killings took place a year ago in a tree-lined street of private homes in Mount Vernon, a suburban area of New York City, where Evans has lived with the daughter and her mother, Joan Whitfield. The mayor of the city lived a few houses.
On January 9, 2010, Evans asked Whitfield while she was working in a city hospital, prosecutors said. They argued, and Evans Whitfield said he would kill their daughter, Ayanna Evans, and his babysitter, 42 years Lorna Williams, said the District Attorney.
Concern Whitfield called Mount Vernon police, who went to the house. As they approached, Evans left the house and relinquished, telling he had pellet "everyone," said District Attorney.
Inside, police found Ayanna die in his bed. She had been shot numerous times in the chest. Williams was in another bedroom, dead from a bullet in the head.
Police got a handgun virtually the front door. Tests showed he was the murder weapon, DiFiore said.
Evans was aerated with 1st degree murder, which could mean a life sentence without parole if convicted at trial. Below his plea bargain in Westchester County Court, he would obtain two consecutive sentences of 20 years to life.
