The landlocked country bordered by South Africa to the south, Botswana (post-1966) to the southwest, Zambia to the northwest and Mozambique (a Portuguese territory until 1975) to the east. The State was led by a predominantly white minority government until 1979, first as a separate colony, and after the unilateral annunciation of independency as a self-proclaimed monarch Dominion and most recently, a Republic.
Passim its chronicle, Rhodesia bore on to be targeted by the British, who do not recognize the government that "Southern Rhodesia". Before 1964, the name "Rhodesia" referred to the territory consisting of Southern Rhodesia and Northern Rhodesia which formed the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. It consisted of modern Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi, but when the former colony of Northern Rhodesia itself renamed Zambia independence in 1964, was renamed Nyasaland Malawi in 1964, and the colony of Southern Rhodesia changed its name to simply "Rhodesia".
Even so, the exchange hasn't still been formally ratified when Rhodesia declared itself independent, and therefore, the British government continued to refer to the breakaway colony "Southern Rhodesia" Throughout its existence; it has maintained a position on the June-December 1979 successor state of Rhodesia to Zimbabwe. Therefore, when Zimbabwe Rhodesia returns to colonial status in December 1979 to April 1980, he was like "Southern Rhodesia", which, according to Britain, he had never ceased to be called. Rhodesia South subsequently obtained international recognition of it is independency in Apr 1980 while it turned the independent Republic of Zimbabwe.
